I think the question that one begs, though, is just how badly would Emma's earnest attempts to Clear Mr Knightley's Name be going? I suspect not an awful lot better than Mr Knightley's time on the run with Mrs Elton, Interfering Vicar-s Wife By Day, Terrible Highwaywoman By Night (but she did personally know Mr Turpin when he visited Bath one time,) and also would he feel honour bound to marry her afterwards and would Highbury implode?
