'The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding' - Agatha Christie is set in winter and has the bonus of being short.

Edward Lear books are free as ebooks for poetry, but you might get sick of limericks by the end of one!

When I was a kid the children's section of the library was full of Edward Lear poems. He was a Victoria writer of nonsense verse so he's PD now.

April 18 :) What's yours??

And for books set in Winter -- I know it's a bit out of season -- but I would definitely recommend the following to you:

How Mrs Claus Saved Christmas -- LOVED this! It actually helped me get in the Christmas mood after my Daddy passed.

The Christmas Spirit -- Just read this one this past season, and I NEVER thought I would be a Debbie Macomber fan, but this was WELL worth the read!! Loved the interactions between the Preacher and the biker gang. :) Daddy was a biker so you know how that goes :)

Best of luck, as always, my friend! <3

If you like the old Rankins and Bass specials, you'll love that Mrs. Claus book. :)

Feel free to surprise me! :)

But I still don't have YOUR day?? :(

I can't say that I have. I DO remember seeing it pop up rather often in libraries and thrift stores, but it never caught my interest. Largely because, I think, either I wasn't exactly aligned with Christianity at the time, or I was but was looking for more serious/deeper reads.

Off the top of my head, the only book I can name set in Canada is John Buchan's Sick Heart River aka Mountain Meadow.

Books with a one-word title: A couple of sci-fi ones are Asimov's Foundation and Banks's Excession. (ETA: And then there's Niven's Ringworld and Pratchett's riff on it, Strata).

For poetry, I'm tempted to recommend The Stuffed Owl: An Anthology of Bad Verse by D. B. Wyndham Lewis.

Fluffy thing... I wonder about 12 for Bill/Heather. (27 for Jamie/Victoria is impeccably canon, of course).

For a Book set in Canada, there is all the LM Montgomery books, if that's not too obvious - all the Anne of Green Gables, and Emily books and the rest.
